I saw a white friend today that I haven’t seen in a month. Her hair grew an inch and a half approx. And she doesn’t do anything special to her hair. Just wash and go. Whereas I have to deep condition, moisturize, do treatments, ect . . . And my hair grows only half an inch a month. If I dont do all of that my hair breaks.
Why is it so different?
If your friend’s hair did indeed grow an inch and a half in one month, her hair grows WAYYY faster than most people’s!
Normal/average rate of hair-growth is one half inch per month, so yours is average.
I think that breakage is why your hair seems to grow more slowly. African hair is more fragile and more prone to breakage.

their hair is much stronger and easier to handle.

Unfortunately, our hair seems like it takes longer to grow because we do so much to it. Chemicals like relaxers and color as well as using a lot of heat can take such a toll on our hair. All of these factors can contribute to breakage, which can make the hair look like it’s not growing, when it really is. I don’t know if you have a relaxer, but if you want to see more growth, try waiting longer between touch-ups, or stopping all together. I stopped relaxing about 5 years ago, and I’ve seen amazing growth since then.

Because white people usually have smooth (oily) hair, which makes it stronger and much less prone to breakage. That’s why it looks shinier.
Wheras Afro hair is very dry and course, which makes it brittle. It breaks off easily, so it can’t grow as rapidly.
I’m white, and i have straight, smooth hair. It grows like wild fire, so it’s reallly long.
Btw don’t worry, cork screw curls can look gorgeous if you look after them well! Sometimes i choose to curl my hair with curling tongs for a change. Embrace your curls, be proud of them! =o]

i have very long, straight hair.
Hair is an extension of dead brain cells scientifically, so in a way you are using your brain more and don’t have it popping out through your hair, also straight hair doesn’t kink if you stretch your hair you will find it is about the same length straight. I still like the first answer more though. I wish you well in your dilemma, I hope you find peace

Black people grow hair the same length as white people.
But our hair is curly (well i have these small curls) and there hair is straight and when you have curls/afro the hair look less and people with straight hair look like they have longer hair even though we have the same length.

There is no difference. The thing is that when you see a person that you haven’t seen in a while you are going to notice every difference in them (weight, hair, etc.). You see and deal with your hair every day so you really don’t notice the growth until you try a new hair style or someone says something etc. I am an African American and my co-workers tell me my hair looks like it grows longer every day. Continue to take care of your hair and you will see the progress.

THATS BECUZ AFRICAN HAIR IS EASIER TO DAMAGE N WHITES OR INDIAN HAIR IS MUCH STRONGER N EASIER TO HANDLE, BECUZ ITS EASIER TO HANDLE THERE IS HARDLY ANY PRESSURE WHEN COMBING SO IT DOESNT BREAK EASILY N BREAKING CAUSES IT TO GROW SLOWLY
