Save yourself the trouble of getting into a hair war with your parents. You will not prevail or change your parent's ideas about long hair on boys or their decision on how you will wear your hair. If anything you will prolong their feeling that they have to supervise your haircuts. At 15 or 16 they are probably going to stop being concerned about your hair, and just give up if you still want to wear long hair. At that age most of your friends will have started to get shorter haircuts because they want summer or part time jobs or just for convenience. On most of the high school football teams around here at least 80% of the guys are wearing a crew cut, ivy league or butch cut. And just a note about some of the other answers saying you can do as you wish, actually you can't. It is entirely your parent's decision to choose your haircut. If you refuse and get really belligerent about it to the point of your parents having to call the police, it can be a bad situation for your future. For instance if you decide you want to join the military or need a security clearance for the CIA or FBA, even sealed juvenile records are opened up and you will need to explain the circumstances of being involved with authorities and get a waiver. Fighting about hair just isn't worth it when in the end you are going to wear a short haircut anyway if you are like most guys in college or want a better chance of a good paying job after college. Let all your friends think you really like short hair and hav a good time experimenting with short styles. A good barber can design a short taper cut or one of the short pomp styles-crew cut, ivy league(long crew cut), flat top crew cut-to suit any young guy's head shape, face and neck shape, frontal hairline and facial features. A short style is easier to groom. Most guys fully suit a short style, it pleases a guy's parents, makes a a very favorable first impression on most people including almost all adults, and if a guy's friends think it is his idea and he is cool with it, it is fine with them too. Trust me, there are plenty of guys your age wearing long hair who don't like it at all, but are afraid to cut it because they think others are used to seeing them in long hair. I was one of them! The information below will hopefully help you to get great looking short styles till your parents let up and let you grow your hair. Don't whine about haircuts to your parents and start asking to go and get a haircut before they even say anything about it and they are going to stop being so concerned about your haircut choices a lot sooner than if you make it a major divisive issue in your relationship. Don't just cut it to the longest length they will allow. This is almost never the best looking short style for a guy, but instead cut it to a great looking style well within their limits.
regular taper cut:

ivy league(long crew cut):

http://a.imagehost.org/0785/Ivy_League_Blonde_Large.jpg
Some barbers describe an ivy league as a crew cut just long enough to be parted and combed to the side, if so desired. An ivy league can also be worn with the hair brushed up off the forehead to form the short pomp front, or with the short bangs brushed down on the forehead like a forward brush cut.
crew cut:

Essential Barbering Knowledge:

Basic Short Cuts:

Grooming any of the short pomp styles- crew cut, ivy league, flat top crew cut- is basically the same and takes about a minute or two.
1) Towel dry hair.
2) Barely dip fingertips in jar of wax.
3)Transfer wax to palms.
4) Smooth palms over hair.
5)Brush hair off forehead to form short pomp front.
Whichever style you decide on, be sure to take a photo to help describe the desired haircut to the barber or stylist. If you need more photos of any style let me know.
Good Luck!
References :
Do any of you friends that your parents know have long hair. If so use them as an example to show that long hair is not necessarilly a gay thing.

A lot of celebreties have had long hair who are not gay.
References :
Try stating reasons in a mature way and let them know that you believe its best if you have the art of expressing who you are. They can only teach and control you so much, you are still the person you are inside. Weather it looks like an animal or you go bald you should have that much liberation, you are a teen and the inability to not express yourself will cause you probably to act out in other ways. Hair says a lot about you and they might think you will start getting more open with your appearance of freedom but you have to live and cannot be in a box all the time especially for something growing on your own head. Explain to them how freedom of expression is vital in a teens growth and development in figuring out who you are! Who you want to be or become and its a phase also, it is actually healthy you want to go through it! Maybe print this Yahoo page out and show them. :)

If it was me I would guilt trip them by saying things like 'would you be ashamed of me? What kind of parents are ashamed of their kids if they have long hair' or 'Mum you need to cut the umbilical cord, I am 14, not 4. As a parent you need to let me be an individual'. If they are christian you can always pull the 'jesus had long hair'
References :
First of all, tell them not to discriminate against gay people. Also tell them, hair is a freedom of expression, and 70% of STRAIGHT guys wear their hair longer anyway.
References :
Well that is how my parents are too, i wanted my hair short but they were making me grow it out, so i cut my hair by myself (which it did turn out pretty good). lol

Tell ur parents that you are 14 and you are old enough to make your own decisions, especially since it your own body, tell them that you should at least be able to try it for a while.

good luck :)
